Enville Brewery – Gothic Stout

Enville Brewery – Gothic Stout

This is the second Enville beer that I’ve tried. It’s a 5.2% ABV traditional stout using English hops and dark malts. It was winner of  the West Midlands regional CAMRA ‘Stout of the Year’ (though Enville’s website doesn’t tell you which year!).

For the price and the strength (I prefer imperial stouts, as I think they tend to have better flavour) it’s not a bad stout at all. And by not bad I mean its really great. It is smooth,  has good flavour – the caramel flavour of the dark malts comes through strongly but there’s also a hint of sweetness.

It has a very slight amount of bitterness but ends up being a really refreshing beer that you can enjoy of a winters evening next to the fire. A good recommendation if you want a great quality beer from the Midlands.
